    Elizabeth Bowen was an Irish-British novelist and short story writer. During this course we will be considering two of her novels: "The House in Paris" (1936) and "The Death of the Heart" (1938) as well as a couple of her ghost stories. We will examine the novels individually & in relation to each other. In addition, we will explore such themes as childhood, love & betrayal, identity, sexual affairs and the effects of secrets. At each seminar there will be a short introductory talk followed by lively class discussion.
