Language and literature challenge - in person (Summer term) (LIT 40)

  • Day and time: Tuesday 13:45 - 14:45
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Summer (9 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 16
  • Start date: 16 April 2024
  • Description:

Here is another opportunity to test your knowledge of English language and literature. This programme offers friendly rivalry rather than fierce competition. Topics encompass authors, adult and children’s stories, poetry, grammar, novels, plays, quotations, spelling, word games – and even nursery rhymes. You may find yourself concentrating on anagrams or zebras. Some quizzes will be sent each week in advance by email; members are on their honour not to cheat by resorting to Google. Others will be issued in class, and some will be topics for discussion rather than answering individually. Most quizzes will be new to U3AC; reused ones won’t have been aired for at least three years. Most will be the same as those offered in the Zoom class(LIT 20(z))  but not necessarily in the same week, so don’t apply for both.

  • Format: Course or activity without teaching

  • Leader: Jenny Knight
  • A long career in publishing makes language and literature my favourite subjects for the quizzes I enjoy devising for U3AC and other local organisations.
