The objective of this new course is to instruct students how to carry out research and analysis of original local records and maps, leading eventually to the production of short illustrated articles suitable for publication by the group. It will be based mainly on extensive digitised records of Histon and Impington, which will be provided. Prior knowledge of the parishes is not required - students will be enabled to do similar work on other parishes. Instruction will be given in the use of packages such as word, excel, powerpoint and others to map, analyse and present historical data. The course will also provide experience of copying, transcribing and indexing material for use in the course and to create a permanent archival record. Students will be required to bring their own laptops, preferably running windows, and to work between meetings. A small charge may be made for consumables.
