  • Description:

    The course will cover key Western philosophers from Socrates to contemporary writers in the areas of utilitarianism, existentialism and social justice. In each session key issues will be raised and discussed, for example (in the case of Socrates) the relationship of virtue to knowledge, and (in the case of Marx) the relationship of ethics to political action. At least 30 minutes will be available for discussion. The course will be for non-specialists, at something like first year university level. Short handouts will be available for each session. No special equipment is required.  This is a repeat of last year's course.
