  • Number of places: 10
  • Start date: 13 October 2016
  • Description:

According to Aristotle, What is just for a slave-owner or a father is not the same as justice between citizens...because there can be no injustice towards things that are one's own. ... Justice exists only between people who are subject to law, and where there is law there is injustice, because the law's judgment is what discriminates between what is just and what is unjust. And where there is injustice, people act unjustly towards each other...that is, people allot themselves too much of things that are good in the abstract, and too little of things that are bad in the abstract... (Aristotle: The Endymian Ethics , trans, A.Kenny, Oxford World Classics) Do we agree? Are Aristotle's perceptions still relevant? Members will take turns in suggesting questions for class discussion based on the reading and relevant to the problems and values of society today.
