Naturalists Group (SCE 15)

  • Day and time: Wednesday 10:00 - 12:30
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 3 terms. Autumn (10 Weeks), Spring (10 Weeks), Summer (9 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 10
  • Start date: 12 October 2016
  • Description:

This group is for members who have a passion for the natural world and would like to discover more. It will include both fieldwork and classroom based discussion. It is hoped that everyone will contribute their own interests and that experienced biologists will be tempted to come and share their expertise and discover other fields. However, no expertise is required, only enthusiasm. Times given (10-12.00) are approximate as some longer expeditions may extend into the afternoon and we aim to be outdoors as much as possible. Previous groups have dated hedges, used microscopes to look at invertebrates, identified bird song, raced snails and looked at fungi. For the last 3 years, we have contributed to the Cambridge Natural History Society’s Conversazione (the summer exhibition). Fitness levels: fieldwork may involve 3-4 miles walking and climbing over styles, generally less than this.
