No Longer With Us - Nature's Experiments (summer term) (SCE 17)

  • Day and time: Wednesday 12:50 - 13:50
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Summer (6 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 18
  • Start date: 19 April 2017
  • Description:

The fossil record shows the biodiversity of the past. There is a wealth of information about the animals that lived before the dinosaurs evolved, during their reign, and afterwards. This course is about ancient life other than dinosaurs, with an emphasis on megafauna (animals thought to weigh more than 44 kg). This is a vast area of study and creatures will be selected for the awe and wonder they inspire, which may include the Terror Birds, giant penguins, Plesiosaurs, Placodonts, early elephants, woolly rhinoceros, creatures from Australia, Glyptodonts, giant ground sloths, and the three incarnations of sabre-tooths. Breadth and depth of the information provided in the course will depend on what can be gleaned in the research on which the course will be based.
