Human rights and freedoms in the UK are dangerously afloat in the fast-moving politics of the time. The referendum process and result introduces new hazards as questions of national identity within the UK and as Europeans rise, shift loyalties and values and sharpen differences. A small group of us have been meeting informally in Bridge Street to discuss the 'wicked issues' for freedom and human rights. We have found our discussions very illuminating and we invite members to refresh our debates. Each of us in turn introduces a subject to discuss in a session. This is not obligatory. We attach great importance to the idea of agency. How can ordinary citizens influence public policy for the common good? What part can civil society organisations play in strengthening active citizenship?
