Climate Change - What to think and what to do (SCE 24)

  • Day and time: Thursday 15:15 - 16:45
  • Length of course: 1 term. Autumn (8 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 16
  • Start date: 19 October 2023
  • Description:

The course will look at all aspects of Climate Change - the history, human influence on climate, other challenges like bio-diversity loss, soil erosion, drought, food insecurity etc, the conduct of businesses, government, scientists and activists, the psychology behind inaction, and finally what we can do both individually and collectively so that we, our children and grandchildren can live on a habitable planet in a sustainable way, wherever possible without sacrificing the benefits of modern life. If we don’t, our generation will live in infamy – the first to know, yet look the other way.

The course will help you (a) grasp the urgency of the issue and the imperative to push for change, and (b) provide the resources to enable you to make and bring about those changes – including things like investing better, life style and engaging others. This course ran twice last year by Zoom only – there will be new material and more time for Q&A.

  • I am an amateur, but it turns out that we amateur inhabitants are the crucial actors in this slow-burn existential crisis - there is no Planet B. Many past attendees said it really helped them work out what to do.
