Literature and Language and Challenge - in person (Summer term) (LIT 46)

  • Day and time: Wednesday 15:30 - 16:30
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Summer (8 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 16
  • Start date: 23 April 2025
  • Description:

Here is an opportunity to test your knowledge of English literature and language informally in a series that offers friendly rivalry rather than fierce competition. Topics encompass adult and children’s fiction, the alphabet, authors, etymology, grammar, poetry, plays, quotations, spelling, word games – even nursery rhymes. You may find yourself puzzling over negatives that have no positive form or flowers (of the vegetable kind) in literature. Some activities will be emailed in advance; members are on their honour not to resort to Google for answers. Others will be issued in class, and a few will be topics for discussion rather than quizzes. Most will be new to U3AC; any reused ones won’t have been aired for at least three years. The Zoom programme is similar, but quizzes will not necessarily be in the same order. The Zoom programme is similar, but quizzes will not necessary be in the same order.

  • Format: Course or activity without teaching

  • Leader: Jenny Knight
  • I enjoy devising quizzes of all kinds for U3AC and other local organisations. A long career in publishing makes literature and language my favourite subjects for them.
