  • Start date: 10 October 2016
  • Description:

There are thousands of innovative, experimental and alternative schools throughout the world and their numbers are growing because of disenchantment with current education systems. Home schooling is attracting many more parents. We will consider what the problems are with present-day schools, what innovators are doing, why, and with what results. also, what developments could take place over the next twenty years or so and what, in our view, would characterise an ideal school and an ideal education system in the future. At least 50% of class time will be given over to discussion. Readings will be suggested. Possession of, or access to, a computer (tablet, etc.) with broadband and email capabilities is highly desirable, as much relevant reading matter is on websites and some will be emailed to course members. No special background knowledge is required – just an interest in education.
