    Weekly

  • Description:

We shall start by looking at pre-Christian Ireland and then the form taken by the Celtic Church. Viking invasions led to settlement as did Norman invasions after which Ireland became an English colony. Frequent rebellions against English rule failed, but later in the 10th century came the Land War and the struggle for home rule under Parnell. The Easter Week rebellion of 1916, though a failure, led to the Little War and the establishment of the Irish Free State, later Eire. Finally we must study Northern Ireland since the 1920s, the violence and at last, the Peace Process.
