The methods of survey, excavation and dating will be discussed. The identification of artefacts, including pottery, metal glass will be reviewed. Using local, regional, national and worldwide examples mankind’s activities to provide food, shelter and survival will be looked at from early time to the recent past. No previous knowledge is expected but a willingness to join in discussion of the nature of the evidence and how it might be interpreted will be encouraged. The course will give a wide introduction to archaeology and hopefully encourage participants to continue their own studies.
