Synopsis: Cahal Pech was a Maya settlement existing from the pre-classic period (1000 BCE) to the collapse of the Maya civilisation in about 1450. Whilst not as grand as Chicken Itza or Tikal, along with its sister, and much larger, site, Xunantunich, it encompasses a comprehensive history of the Maya in a localised environment.
