Built in 1766 Spencer House was the London home of generations of the Spencer family, including Lady Diana. Set in St James, the elegant Georgian house with its Doric facade overlooks Green Park.  Now leased to the Rothschild Foundation, the house has been painstakingly and lovingly restored to its former grandeur; including the huge marble fireplaces and mahogany doors removed to Althorp House for safekeeping during the Blitz. Our morning visit will include a guided tour of the eight State Rooms, arranged over two floors (lift available) including the Library, Dining Room, Palm Room, Music Room and Painted Room; designed for entertaining on a grand scale with stunning neo-classical interiors and magnificent works of art. We shall be having our tea/coffee and biscuits in the beautiful Great Room. Finally, we can view the garden from the terrace, weather permitting.

We will then travel by coach to Tate Britain where there will be free time to have refreshments and visit the various galleries and exhibitions of your own choice. A few highlights of the art collection include the Pre-Raphaelites, such as Ophelia by John Everett Millais to contemporary works such as A Bigger Splash by David Hockney.  In addition, the exhibitions running at that time are the Turner Prize 2024 and The 80s: Photographing Britain. They are both bookable on the Tate’s website or over the phone and they recommend booking in advance especially for The 80s: Photographing Britain as it will only have been open for 4 days before your visit so may be fairly busy.

Closing date for applications is Monday 11 November.
